Kitchen Cutie

I recently came across a story featuring Dita Von Teese about food on The New Potato. They have a picture of her extremely pink kitchen. Perfect for any retro gal and although I'm not a pink kinda girl (know a few) I appreciated all the vintages features such as the lamp, the retro floor and  the beautiful head vases. You can always get the look on the Big Chill! For more Dita and food check out this, this and this. Also a link on her favorite foods.

Dita does Rumba

Dita Von Teese is one of our favorite performers and we were so lucky to see her perform early this year. Her shows are a technicolor dream full of glitz and glamour and we love that the audience always dress to the nines! Her current show is an homage to 1940's tropical films. We are so thrilled about that because we collect "Rumberas" memorabilia from Mexico. It's just refreshing to see someone remembering the icons from Latinamerican beside the well know Carmen Miranda. More pictures here!

Here's a classic scene from Ninon Sevilla singing "Pintame de Colores" in a 1940's Mexican rumberas movie.

The Quickfire Teese

Its been a while since we did a Dita post but I think this is the mother of all posts. During the week Dita Von Teese was a special guest in one of our favorite shows "Top Chef: Masters" and it certainly was one of the best episodes yet! Although she's know to be the Queen of Burlesque this lady is so elegant and full knowledge when it comes to her food. It was hilarious to watched Chef and host Curtis Stone acting  like a little boy when she speak. All feathers where ruffled during the taping of the show. Here is great review of the episode:

The Braiser: Tonight In Food TV: Dita Von Teese Ruffles Curtis Stone’s Feathers On Top Chef Masters
by Mariella Mosthof

"On tonight’s Top Chef: Masters, the cheftestants will battle it out with sexy foods in a Quickfire Challenge for burlesque goddess Dita Von Teese. Of course, unlike Top Chef: Amateurs, the chefs will only see coverage of Miss Von Teese tasting their dishes through a live feed of the dining room, which leaves host Curtis Stone all alone with a professional seductress. Okay, take a moment to calm yourself, because, yes, she is strikingly beautiful, and remarkably apt at toeing the line between coquette and pro-dom. Can we move on now? Great.
She arrived to take The Daintiest Bites Ever of the Quickfire dishes, while Curtis could barely scrape together his hostly charms, he was so thoroughly ruffled by the beautiful Von Teese. Between talk of teases vs payoffs and soft caresses vs quick smacks (we’re discussing food, here), Curtis blushed, stuttered, and choked his way through the tasting with all the charm of a 10th grade boy at the chalkboard with a boner."

Hostess with the Mostess

Cointreau MargaDita recipe:
  • 1.5 oz Cointreau
  • 1.5 oz Silver Tequila
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/2 oz Monin Rose Syrup
  • 1 pinch Chipotle Spice
Mix all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled coup glass. Garnish with floating organic yellow rose petals. For an added kick, add a chipotle and salt rim.
Dita Von Teese’s Tips for Hosting the Perfect Party at Home

On being a hostess.
Because I travel so much I meet lots of people and I love being the hostess! It’s a way of entertaining that I enjoy more than anything. Refinement in its purest form. Keep it simple with one or two cocktail options, plus a drink that requires no effort. Throw in a few appetizers and everyone will be impressed. It’s about atmosphere. If you can choose a few things that you can do really well, that’s what’s important.
On choosing the perfect cocktail for your party.
Choose cocktails that are elegant and unique. I love the classic Cointreau Sidecar…it has a warmth that is divine, plus most people don’t know this classic vintage cocktail, so it’s a delight to serve it at parties.

On serving cocktails to your guests.
I want to remind people how simple it is to mix cocktails at home. Taking time to mix a beautiful cocktail is a glamorous way to honor your guests.
It also depends on your mood and where you are. At home in LA, I like to serve something light and fresh. On the other hand, in Paris, I think of times past, and prefer something warm and rich. I always make cocktails using Cointreau because Cointreau is an original and a classic element in the most historic and most beautiful cocktails. There is simply no substitute! It’s the only thing that ensures a perfectly balanced cocktail and I love its bitter and sweet orange aromas.
On themed parties.
If you’re hosting a special evening or throwing a themed party, choose a cocktail that’s a twist on something traditional. I like to throw Mexican-themed taco parties for my closest friends. On these intimate evenings, I’ll serve traditional Margaritas in addition to my namesake, Cointreau MargaDita. Just serve it in a coup glass with a chipotle and salt rim or prepare a pitcher for easy entertaining with a spicy kick.
On food.
I love making simple but elegant appetizers. I usually choose a selection of savory and sweet things that are fairly simple to make, but the presentation is everything, so I serve them on beautiful antique dishes I find at antique flea markets.
On being a guest.
I think it’s always important to show up with a nice gift for the hostess, something thoughtful and nice that they would appreciate.

MargaDITA

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the summer soirée season with the Cointreau MargaDita – the latest collaboration from Dita Von Teese, International Queen of Burlesque, and Cointreau, the original French triple sec. As the global Cointreauversial ambassador since 2007, Dita Von Teese proudly introduces her latest namesake cocktail, the Cointreau MargaDita, a bold and seductive reinvention of the classic Margarita, the #1 selling cocktail in America. Dita Von Teese’s tasty new libation is a homage to Margarita Sames, the bon vivante Dallas socialite who created the original recipe in 1948 while vacationing at her Acapulco cliffside hacienda.

According to Dita Von Teese, "The Cointreau MargaDita is a tantalizing haute-cocktail with a spicy twist."“Margarita Sames was clearly a strong, confident, and stylish woman well known for her entertaining prowess - qualities that I both admire and, hopefully, embody,” says Dita Von Teese. “Her Margarita recipe has been enjoyed for over 60 years and it seemed only natural for me to create my own cocktail as a tribute to this glamorous and charismatic woman.”

Dita Von Teese toasts this alluring woman, who unfortunately passed away this past year, by using the classic margarita ingredients as a base for her Cointreau MargaDita cocktail: Cointreau, tequila and fresh lime juice. “I wanted to keep the integrity of the original margarita recipe, but add a personal touch of my own. The juxtaposition of floral notes with spicy elements makes for a seductive twist: aromatic Monin Rose Syrup for a hint of floral, feminine perfume, and a dash of chipotle powder for an unexpected spicy smack. I think Margarita Sames would approve,” says Dita Von Teese.

The Showgirl Next Door

Love, love the Instyle spread with Dita Von Teese. I was always curious about her house and how much vintage conform the space and she didn't disappoint! Hollywood Regency with touches of Art Deco, luscious wallpaper, beautiful taxidermy, gorgeous closets and an informative library filled with pin-up and burlesque history. Dorothy Draper would be so proud. Also love the never before seen shots from the amazing Douglas Friedman.

The Bride Wore Purple

Loving the richness of this winter wedding. Sadly the marriage didn't last but the jewel tones are beyond gorgeous. Here is the press release & interview from Gottfried Helnwien.
Dita wore a royal purple silk taffeta gown, made by Vivienne Westwood and a tri-corned hat designed by Stephen Jones and matching Mr. Pearl corset. Christian Louboutin designed her shoes and Moschino created an additional wardrobe for the rest of the weekend, exclusively for Von Teese. The reception music was provided by the retro German band Palast Orchester with Max Raabe. Guests were invited to participate in skeet shooting, archery and falconry in the days following the wedding. The wedding pictures appeared in the March 2006 edition of Vogue under the heading "The Bride Wore Purple".

Casual Color

We usually see Dita wearing black or purple on formal events but i love that for casual days (for us dress-up days) she wears a lot of color. Love all the vintage painted full skirts and the wedge heels.

Edgy Vintage

Love vintage but nothing is better when you put a little edge to any classic look. I always admirer the look of Bettie Page, Blade Runner's Rachael, rocker Amelia Arsenic, the inspirational Viktoria Modesta and even Dujour... remember her? But nobody does vintage with an edge like Dita... so tough yet so chic.
